Bárbara Reis Will Be a Semi-Highlight in Salgueiro’s 2025 Carnival Parade
Actress Bárbara Reis has been announced as a semi-highlight for GRES Acadêmicos do Salgueiro in the 2025 Carnival. Invited by patron Adilsinho and president André Vaz, she will appear on the school’s third float, titled “O Sangue Malê em São Salvador”, wearing the luxurious costume “Relicário Baiano”.
“Having Bárbara in our parade is a great joy. She is a talented artist who carries the strength of our community and a deep passion for Salgueiro. We are sure her presence will add even more brilliance to our performance,” emphasized president André Vaz.
Set in colonial Salvador, Salgueiro’s third float portrays the suffering of slavery and the resilience of Black communities, who were forced to adapt their religious practices under the imposition of Christian faith. The float references Catholic reliquaries, adorned with gold and voluminous Baroque-style shapes, while also highlighting cowrie shells as a symbol of Black resistance.
Bárbara Reis, who recently gained prominence on television with hit soap operas, is a proud Tijuca native with a deep connection to Salgueiro. Now, she is fulfilling her dream of parading for her beloved samba school.
“In Carnival 2025, I will have the honor of parading as a semi-highlight for Acadêmicos do Salgueiro! Light the candles, set the stage, because my faith and energy are fully charged for this special moment! Red and white in my veins, axé in my soul! Salgueiro, get ready—I’m coming!” declared the actress.
“Salgueiro de Corpo Fechado” – Carnival 2025
For the 2025 Carnival, GRES Acadêmicos do Salgueiro presents an enredo that blends faith, resistance, and ancestral strength. Titled “Salgueiro de Corpo Fechado”, the theme seeks to exalt the protective energies surrounding the school and its community, highlighting elements of spirituality, popular culture, and religious syncretism deeply rooted in Brazilian history.
Under the artistic direction of carnival designer Jorge Silveira, the enredo promises a powerful and profound spectacle, with floats and costumes symbolizing spiritual shields, protective rituals, and the strength of unity. Drawing inspiration from cultural and religious practices of African and Indigenous origins, Salgueiro’s parade will be filled with symbols, colors, and movement, reinforcing the idea of divine protection and collective resilience in challenging times.
The title “Salgueiro de Corpo Fechado” refers to a popular expression symbolizing a spiritual fortress against adversity, emphasizing that Salgueiro is a school shielded by the faith of its members and supporters. The enredo’s narrative will explore mysticism, tradition, and modernity, delivering messages of resistance, strength, and celebration of Brazil’s cultural diversity.
According to Jorge Silveira, the challenge is to translate this unique energy into a visually stunning and emotionally charged parade:
“We want to convey the essence of Salgueiro: a school protected by faith that turns challenges into victories. This enredo is a tribute to spirituality and the collective strength that drives our people.”
In 2025, Salgueiro will be the third school to parade on Monday, March 3rd, competing for its tenth championship title.
