✊🏾 Literatura como trincheira
Protagonizado por Mariah Lopes, uma autora negra e periférica, o livro apresenta os bastidores de uma feira literária fictícia do Espírito Santo, onde ela é convidada a participar da mesa Narrativas insurgentes. Lá, confronta-se com Adrian Mesquita, um intelectual branco que representa os mecanismos de exclusão do cânone.

Entre embates simbólicos e episódios de apagamento, a obra convida o leitor a repensar quem tem o direito de escrever, ser lido e ocupar espaços de legitimidade na cultura. A narrativa mistura força, lirismo e crítica, dialogando com autoras pretas, além de experiências reais de silenciamento vividas por escritoras negras no Brasil.

✍🏾 Sobre o autor
Maxwell dos Santos (1986) é jornalista, radialista, designer gráfico e servidor público em Cariacica (ES). Editor-chefe do portal Marramaque, é também professor voluntário de Literatura e História em cursinhos populares e atua em projetos de valorização da produção cultural da periferia. Licenciado em Letras pelo IFES, é especialista em Revisão de Textos e Escrita Criativa, cursa bacharelado em Relações Públicas e é mestrando em Tecnologias Emergentes em Educação pela Must University.

On the Day of the Afro-Latin American and Caribbean Woman and also Brazil’s National Writers’ Day, Maxwell dos Santos will launch his novel À margem das letras, featuring a special live stream and free PDF distribution.

On July 25th, a date that honors Black women throughout the Americas and also celebrates writing as both craft and resistance, Brazilian writer Maxwell dos Santos will launch the e-book À margem das letras (On the Margins of Letters), a novel that denounces structural racism and intellectual elitism in Brazil’s literary circles. The book will be available for free in PDF format (download here) and also through Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. The launch will include a special YouTube livestream with surprise guests at 8 PM on the author’s channel:

✊🏾 Literature as Resistance

Starring Mariah Lopes, a Black author from the Brazilian periphery, the book explores the backstage of a fictional literary fair in Espírito Santo, where she is invited to speak at the panel Insurgent Narratives. There, she faces Adrian Mesquita, a white intellectual symbolizing the exclusionary mechanisms of the literary canon.

Through symbolic clashes and episodes of erasure, the novel challenges readers to rethink who has the right to write, to be read, and to occupy legitimate cultural spaces. The narrative combines strength, lyricism, and critique, referencing Black women writers and real experiences of silencing faced by Black authors in Brazil.

✍🏾 About the Author

Maxwell dos Santos (b. 1986) is a journalist, radio host, graphic designer, and public servant in Cariacica, Espírito Santo. He is editor-in-chief of the portal Marramaque, a volunteer literature and history teacher in community courses, and works on projects that uplift cultural production from marginalized communities. He holds a degree in Portuguese Language and Literature from IFES, a postgraduate degree in Text Editing and Creative Writing, is pursuing a bachelor’s in Public Relations, and is a master’s student in Emerging Educational Technologies at Must University.
