O evento acontece com programação totalmente gratuita

Entre os dias 04 e 07 de novembro, o Ponto de Cultura CETA – Centro Experimental de Teatro e Artes realiza o FESTCIRCO IGUASSU 2025, no Calçadão de Nova Iguaçu, com programação diversa de oficinas e apresentações circenses envolvendo cerca de 50 profissionais entre artistas e técnicos.

O objetivo do Festival é valorizar e difundir o universo circense em Nova Iguaçu, contando com o apoio da Fundação Educacional e Cultural de Nova Iguaçu (Fenig), Secretaria Municipal de Cultura e Prefeitura da cidade de Nova Iguaçu. Uma oportunidade para a população iguaçuana ter acesso e abraçar o Circo e sua tradição.

“FESTCIRCO IGUASSU 2025 nasce com a ideia de ser um tributo a esses pequenos Circos e sua peculiar maneira de sobreviver. A Baixada Fluminense na sua vida cultural, historicamente, sempre apresentou circos familiares que sobreviveram, ou sobrevivem, em pequenas comunidades e bairros populares, protegendo a sua tradição ‘aos trancos e barrancos’”, afirma Vânia Santos, atriz circense e diretora do CETA. 

Dentro da programação gratuita do Festival, em 5 de setembro será celebrado o Dia Nacional da Cultura, com a apresentação do premiado espetáculo circense “Optcha!” – tributo ao povo cigano e tradição milenar do Circo. Logo em seguida será prestada uma homenagem a Escola Nacional de Circo da Funarte e aos mestres circenses: Delisier Rethy e em Memória: Robby Rethy, Jamelão Sigmaringa e Latur Azevedo.

O  FESTCIRCO IGUASSU 2025 também será espaço para a Oficina Circo com tecido e Lira, no Complexo Cultura Mario Marques de Nova Iguaçu e também uma apresentação do CETA Circo Show com variedades de números circenses. De acordo com  Vânia Santos, será um momento de levar o circo para as ruas de Nova Iguaçu. 

“As artes circenses têm um papel transformador nas comunidades mais vulneráveis. Elas despertam o potencial criativo, promovem a autoconfiança e fortalecem o senso de pertencimento. Ao unir arte, disciplina e coletividade, o circo cria espaços de convivência e inclusão. Mais do que entretenimento, é uma ferramenta de emancipação social e esperança”, conclui. 

Sobre o CETA
O Centro Experimental de Teatro e Artes é dirigido pela premiada atriz e circense Vânia Santos e, desde 1998, realiza o primeiro Circo Social da Baixada Fluminense, a “Oficina Permanente de Teatro e Circo”. Em 2011 o CETA foi  premiado no Encontro Nacional de Novas Metodologias Culturais, realizado pela FUNARTE. Em 2008 o Centro realizou a primeira “Baixada Encena”, Mostra Regional de Teatro de caráter associativo e cooperativo, consolidando-se, posteriormente, na Rede Baixada em Cena que, atualmente, conta com 17 grupos, sendo hoje o maior movimento regional de Teatro no estado. 

Em 2017 o grupo ganhou Prêmio Shell de Teatro, uma das mais importantes premiações teatrais no Brasil. Atualmente, tem cinco espetáculos no seu repertório: “A Cerca”, “Roda..rodar..rodei!”, o monólogo “Perdoa-me por amar” e os espetáculos circenses: “Optcha!” e “Pequeno grande Circo Brasil”. Durante esses 27 anos formaram-se vários alunos que na busca de sua profissionalização, entraram para a Escola Nacional de Circo ou foram diretamente suprir a mão de obra dos pequenos circos familiares que circulam na região e no interior do Estado do Rio de Janeiro.

A free event celebrating circus arts and culture

From November 4 to 7, the CETA – Experimental Center for Theater and Arts will host FESTCIRCO IGUASSU 2025 at the Calçadão de Nova Iguaçu. The festival features a diverse, entirely free program of circus workshops and performances, bringing together around 50 professionals, including artists and technicians.
The festival’s goal is to celebrate and promote circus culture in Nova Iguaçu, with the support of the Educational and Cultural Foundation of Nova Iguaçu (Fenig), the Municipal Department of Culture, and the City Hall of Nova Iguaçu. It’s an opportunity for the local community to embrace the rich traditions of the circus.
“FESTCIRCO IGUASSU 2025 was created as a tribute to the small circuses and their unique ways of surviving. Throughout the cultural history of Baixada Fluminense, family circuses have endured — or still endure — in small communities and popular neighborhoods, preserving their traditions against all odds,” says Vânia Santos, actress, circus performer, and director of CETA.
As part of the festival’s free programming, November 5 will mark the National Culture Day, featuring the acclaimed circus show “Optcha!”, a tribute to the Romani people and the ancient traditions of the circus. Following the show, there will be a special tribute ceremony honoring the National Circus School (Funarte) and legendary circus masters: Delisier Rethy, and in memory of Robby Rethy, Jamelão Sigmaringa, and Latur Azevedo.
FESTCIRCO IGUASSU 2025 will also host a Workshop on Aerial Circus Arts (Silks and Lyra) at the Mario Marques Cultural Complex, and a CETA Circo Show featuring a variety of circus acts.
According to Vânia Santos, the festival is a moment to bring the circus back to the streets of Nova Iguaçu.
“Circus arts have a transformative role in vulnerable communities. They awaken creativity, foster self-confidence, and strengthen a sense of belonging. By combining art, discipline, and community, the circus creates spaces of inclusion and coexistence. More than entertainment, it’s a tool for social empowerment and hope,” she concludes.
About CETA
The Experimental Center for Theater and Arts (CETA) is led by the award-winning actress and circus performer Vânia Santos. Since 1998, CETA has run the first Social Circus Program in Baixada Fluminense, the “Permanent Workshop of Theater and Circus.”
In 2011, CETA received national recognition at the National Meeting of New Cultural Methodologies organized by Funarte. In 2008, it launched “Baixada Encena”, the first regional cooperative theater showcase, which later became the Baixada em Cena Network — now encompassing 17 theater groups, the largest regional theater movement in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
In 2017, CETA won the prestigious Shell Theater Award, one of Brazil’s highest honors in the performing arts.
The group currently has five productions in its repertoire:

• The circus shows “Optcha!” and “Pequeno Grande Circo Brasil.”
Over the past 27 years, CETA has trained numerous students who have gone on to professional careers — many joining the National Circus School or working with small family circuses across Rio de Janeiro and beyond.
