Foz do Iguaçu recebe pré-estreia gratuita do aguardado filme “Documentário em Abismo” na Fundação Cultural de Foz do Iguaçu

Com direção e roteiro de Camila Cohen e protagonizado por Josi Larger, filme usa narrativa sofisticada e intrigante para abordar questões existenciais e profissionais em meio ao caos enfrentado pela humanidade

Será que somos os protagonistas das nossas próprias vidas ou peças de uma história maior? Esse é o ponto de partida do aguardado filme “Documentário em Abismo”, que fará sua pré-estreia aberta ao público no dia 28 de janeiro, terça-feira, às 20h, na Fundação Cultural de Foz do Iguaçu, no Centro.

Com direção e roteiro de Camila Cohen, “Documentário em Abismo” mistura realidade e ficção em uma docuficção que utiliza o estilo de “Narrativa em Abismo” para explorar o vazio e as profundezas existenciais da condição humana. Por meio de uma narrativa dentro de outra narrativa, o filme faz uma alusão ao mundo cinematográfico e ao existencialismo humano, provocando reflexões sobre quem somos e qual é o nosso papel na teia da realidade.

A produção mostra a rotina de preparação e os bastidores de um documentário realizado através da lei Aldir Blanc, “Desconstruindo Maria”, bem como de sua atriz, interpretada por Josi Larger, que precisa lidar com seus questionamentos existenciais e profissionais imersos na neurose em meio ao caos da pandemia de Covid-19.  

– “Documentário em Abismo” é uma docuficção que usa o estilo de narrativa em abismo para fazer uma alusão ao vazio e abismo existencial das nossas vidas. Também mostramos os bastidores e dificuldades do meio audiovisual e a sensação de distopia provocada pela pandemia da Covid-19. Durante a pandemia, muitos tiveram aquela sensação de que estavam vivendo algo tão surreal, que parecia um sonho, uma distopia – conta a diretora e roteirista Camila Cohen.

O projeto foi aprovado pela Fundação Cultural de Foz do Iguaçu, com recursos da Lei Paulo Gustavo, Ministério da Cultura – Governo Federal.

Narrativa em abismo

A “Narrativa em abismo” é uma técnica bastante utilizada na arte, seja no meio audiovisual, na literatura, ou na pintura. Essa ferramenta utiliza histórias ou imagens dentro delas próprias, ou melhor, são narrativas que contêm outras narrativas dentro de si. O termo original surgiu em francês “mise en abyme”, mas existem outros termos como “efeito Droste” ou “espelho infinito”. O universo de “Documentário em Abismo” mistura real com onírico em uma docuficção sobre o estilo de narrativa em abismo e o vazio existencial. 

De acordo com a diretora, a ideia do filme surgiu com base em uma pesquisa sobre a “narrativa em abismo” em sites, entrevistas e conversas com artistas que usam esse artifício em suas obras. Filmes como “Sinédoque New York” e “Adaptação” utilizam este artifício em suas narrativas e serviram como referência para a construção do roteiro. Durante o levantamento, foi observado que não se fala muito desse tema, não há nenhum documentário sobre o assunto e poucos conhecem o termo. A possibilidade de criar um filme com essa peculiaridade aguçou a realizadora, uma vez que a narrativa em abismo permite explorar um aprofundamento do mundo narrativo através de diversas artes, inclusive o meio audiovisual.

– Entramos em contato com o nosso eu de forma mais profunda, existencialista, e até neurótica. E a narrativa da vida? Será que nós somos nós mesmos, vivendo nossas próprias vidas, ou somos uma marionete dentro de uma história maior? Além de ser um filme de metacinema, “Documentário em Abismo” também é um filme que trata do existencialismo humano – destaca Camila Cohen.

Directed and written by Camila Cohen and starring Josi Larger, the film employs a sophisticated and intriguing narrative to address existential and professional issues amidst the chaos faced by humanity.

Are we the protagonists of our own lives or mere pieces in a larger story? This is the starting point of the highly anticipated film “Documentary in Abyss”, which will hold its public pre-premiere on Tuesday, January 28, at 8 PM, at the Foz do Iguaçu Cultural Foundation, located in the city center.

Directed and written by Camila Cohen, “Documentary in Abyss” blends reality and fiction in a docufiction that employs the “Narrative in Abyss” style to explore the void and existential depths of the human condition. Through a narrative within another narrative, the film alludes to the cinematic world and human existentialism, provoking reflections on who we are and our role in the web of reality.

The production showcases the preparation and behind-the-scenes process of a documentary created under the Aldir Blanc Law, “Deconstructing Maria,” as well as its actress, played by Josi Larger, who must grapple with existential and professional dilemmas amidst the neurosis caused by the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Documentary in Abyss” is a docufiction that uses the narrative in abyss style to make an allusion to the void and existential abyss in our lives. We also explore the challenges and backstage of the audiovisual industry and the dystopian sensation brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, many felt as though they were living through something surreal, like a dream or a dystopia,” explains the director and screenwriter Camila Cohen.

The project was approved by the Foz do Iguaçu Cultural Foundation with resources from the Paulo Gustavo Law, Ministry of Culture – Federal Government.

Narrative in Abyss

The “Narrative in Abyss” is a widely used technique in art, whether in audiovisual media, literature, or painting. This tool features stories or images within themselves, or rather, narratives that contain other narratives within them. The term originally comes from French, “mise en abyme,” but other terms like “Droste Effect” or “infinite mirror” are also used. The universe of “Documentary in Abyss” mixes reality with the dreamlike in a docufiction about the narrative in abyss style and existential void.

According to the director, the film idea emerged from research on “narrative in abyss” through websites, interviews, and conversations with artists who use this device in their works. Films like “Synecdoche, New York” and “Adaptation” utilize this technique in their narratives and served as references for the script. During the research, it was noted that the theme is rarely discussed, with no existing documentaries on the subject, and few people are familiar with the term. The opportunity to create a film with this peculiarity intrigued the filmmaker, as the narrative in abyss allows for a deep exploration of the narrative world across various arts, including audiovisual media.

“We delve deeper into ourselves, existentially and even neurotically. And what about life’s narrative? Are we truly ourselves, living our own lives, or are we puppets in a greater story? Besides being a metacinema film, ‘Documentary in Abyss’ also addresses human existentialism,” emphasizes Camila Cohen.
