Prefeito participa da cerimônia de escolha da sede dos Jogos Pan-Americanos de 2031
Candidatura conjunto de Rio e Niterói compete com Assunção, capital do Paraguai

10h – O prefeito do Rio, Eduardo Paes; o vice, Eduardo Cavaliere; o prefeito de Niterói, Rodrigo Neves; e a vice, Isabel Swan, estarão, em Santiago, no Chile, para participar da cerimônia que vai definir a cidade-sede dos Jogos Pan-americanos de 2031. A eleição será transmitida ao vivo pelo canal da Panam Sports, principal entidade do esporte olímpico das Américas, e pela CazéTV. A candidatura de Rio de Janeiro e Niterói concorre com Assunção, no Paraguai.

A Assembleia Geral Extraordinária terá início com uma apresentação da Comissão de Avaliação, que visitou ambas as cidades na semana passada. Em seguida, as duas candidaturas farão suas apresentações em 40 minutos. Rio-Niterói será a primeira a se apresentar.

Após as apresentações de ambas as cidades e suas delegações, será realizada a votação oficial com a participação dos 41 Comitês Olímpicos Nacionais das Américas.

Ao todo são 53 votos em disputa, sendo que os 12 países que já organizaram os Jogos (Argentina, Brasil, Canadá, Colômbia, Chile, Cuba, Estados Unidos, México, Peru, Porto Rico, República Dominicana e Venezuela) têm direito a dois votos. A cidade que obter 27 votos ou mais ganha a eleição.

O Brasil foi sede dos Jogos Pan-americanos em duas ocasiões: São Paulo, em 1963, e depois no Rio de Janeiro, em 2007.

Mayor attends ceremony to choose the host city of the 2031 Pan American Games
Joint bid of Rio and Niterói competes with Asunción, capital of Paraguay

10 a.m. – The Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes; the Deputy Mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere; the Mayor of Niterói, Rodrigo Neves; and the Deputy Mayor, Isabel Swan, will be in Santiago, Chile, to attend the ceremony that will determine the host city of the 2031 Pan American Games. The election will be broadcast live on the Panam Sports Channel, the leading organization of Olympic sports in the Americas, and on CazéTV. The joint bid of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói is competing with Asunción, Paraguay.

The Extraordinary General Assembly will begin with a presentation by the Evaluation Commission, which visited both candidate cities last week. Then, each bid will have 40 minutes for its presentation. Rio–Niterói will present first.

After the presentations of both cities and their delegations, the official vote will be held with the participation of the 41 National Olympic Committees of the Americas.

In total, 53 votes are at stake, as the 12 countries that have already hosted the Games (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, United States, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela) are entitled to two votes each. The city that receives 27 votes or more wins the election.

Brazil has hosted the Pan American Games on two previous occasions: São Paulo in 1963 and Rio de Janeiro in 2007.
