It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of singer, actress, and entrepreneur Preta Maria Gadelha Gil Moreira, at the age of 50. The artist, daughter of the legendary musician Gilberto Gil, had been battling colorectal cancer since January 2023.

Preta passed away on the night of July 20, 2025, at her home in the United States, where she was undergoing an experimental treatment in an effort to control the disease. Sources report that her condition worsened following a chemotherapy session on Wednesday, July 16, when metastasis and serious complications were discovered. Born on August 8, 1974, in Rio de Janeiro, Preta Gil released her debut album Prêt-à-Porter in 2003.
