Last night the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, gathered together all the city and state secretaries and presidents of local agencies involved in the emergency operation following the collapse of three buildings in downtown Rio on Wednesday night (January 25). At a news conference held in the Rio Operations Centre auditorium, Paes said the city remains focused on what he considers most important: saving lives and providing optimum conditions for the Fire Department to perform their search for survivors. Since the collapse six survivors have been recovered, 20 are still missing and seven have been found dead. Families of the victims are being attended to at a dedicated crisis unit staffed by trained professionals including medical team and grief counselors.
