Responsável por chefiar criminosos de 11 comunidades do local, “TH” entrou em confronto com policiais do BOPE e não resistiu

O Governo do Estado, por meio do Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (BOPE), da Polícia Militar, interceptou Thiago da Silva Folly, conhecido como “TH”, durante operação realizada na manhã desta terça-feira (13/05). Os policiais localizaram o criminoso em um bunker na comunidade do Timbau, no Complexo da Maré. Com a chegada dos policiais, houve forte confronto, o criminoso foi atingido e não resistiu. Levados para o Hospital Municipal Evandro Freire, outros dois criminosos feridos durante o confronto vieram a óbito.

-A Polícia Militar retirou de circulação um perigoso criminoso. Quem ganha é a sociedade. Foi uma operação planejada com inteligência e executada com profissionalismo. O objetivo era prender o líder da facção, mas ele optou pelo confronto. Demonstramos mais uma vez que não haverá trégua para estes criminosos extremamente violentos, que circulam fortemente armados e que não têm pudor em utilizar de forma cruel a população como escudo para fugir do cerco das forças de segurança – disse o governador Cláudio Castro.

Alvo da operação por atuar como principal chefe da facção Terceiro Comando Puro(TCP) no Complexo da Maré, TH tinha 17 mandados de prisão contra ele, um dos quais referente ao assassinato dos sargentos do BOPE Rafael Wolfgramm Dias e Jorge Henrique Galdino Cruz, durante uma operação na Maré, em junho do ano passado. TH também era investigado por envolvimento na morte de um militar do Exército em 2014 e por ataques a agentes da Força Nacional em 2016. As investigações indicam ainda que ele coordenava treinamentos paramilitares dentro da comunidade.

• Realizamos uma operação cirúrgica, com base em informações da nossa área de inteligência e adotando todas as medidas para minimizar riscos. É importante ressaltar que a Polícia Militar não fecha escolas nem hospitais. Os criminosos causam esses dados às comunidades – afirmou o secretário de Estado de Polícia Militar, coronel Marcelo de Menezes Nogueira.

Investigação

De acordo com o coronel Menezes, a Polícia Militar realizou um levantamento sobre o “modus operandi” do grupo criminoso e descobriu a residência onde ele estava. Os policiais entraram exatamente no local determinado e houve intenso confronto. O líder da facção estava acompanhando de mais de 20 criminosos, atuando como seguranças.

Com a participação de policiais militares de diferentes unidade, em apoio ao BOPE, a operação foi precedida por um minucioso levantamento feito por agentes da Subsecretaria de Inteligência da SEPM em relação às atividades criminosas em 11 das 16 comunidades que compõem o Complexo da Maré. De acordo com o levantamento, os criminosos são responsáveis por oprimir moradores da comunidade, realizar roubos de carga e de veículos nas vias expressas da região metropolitana, entre outras ações violentas.

Balanço da operação

Após o confronto, foi apreendida uma pistola em poder do criminoso. As principais vias de acesso ao Complexo da Maré foram bloqueadas preventivamente ao longo da manhã para garantir a segurança da população e das equipes em operação.

Responsible for leading criminals across 11 communities in the area, “TH” clashed with BOPE officers and did not survive

The State Government, through the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) of the Military Police, intercepted Thiago da Silva Folly, known as “TH”, during an operation carried out on the morning of Tuesday (May 13). Officers located the criminal in a bunker in the Timbau community, within the Complexo da Maré. Upon arrival, a heavy shootout ensued. The criminal was hit and did not survive. Two other criminals wounded during the confrontation and taken to Evandro Freire Municipal Hospital also died.

— The Military Police has removed a dangerous criminal from the streets. Society is the winner. This was a carefully planned operation, based on intelligence, and executed with professionalism. The goal was to arrest the faction leader, but he chose to resist. Once again, we’ve shown that there will be no truce for these extremely violent criminals, who are heavily armed and cruelly use the population as human shields to escape the grip of security forces — said Governor Cláudio Castro.

Targeted in the operation for serving as the main leader of the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) faction in Complexo da Maré, TH had 17 outstanding arrest warrants, including one for the murder of BOPE sergeants Rafael Wolfgramm Dias and Jorge Henrique Galdino Cruz during an operation in Maré in June of last year. TH was also under investigation for involvement in the killing of an Army soldier in 2014 and for attacks on National Force agents in 2016. Investigations further indicate that he was coordinating paramilitary training within the community.

— We conducted a precise operation based on intelligence information, taking all necessary measures to minimize risk. It is important to highlight that the Military Police does not shut down schools or hospitals. Criminals are the ones causing harm to the communities — stated the State Secretary of the Military Police, Colonel Marcelo de Menezes Nogueira.

Investigation

According to Colonel Menezes, the Military Police investigated the criminal group’s modus operandi and identified the residence where the leader was hiding. Officers entered the exact location and were met with intense resistance. The faction leader was surrounded by over 20 criminals acting as bodyguards.

With the participation of officers from various units, in support of BOPE, the operation was preceded by a detailed intelligence assessment by agents from the SEPM Intelligence Subsecretariat concerning criminal activity in 11 of the 16 communities that make up Complexo da Maré. The assessment revealed that the criminals are responsible for oppressing community residents, and for committing cargo and vehicle thefts on expressways in the metropolitan area, among other violent actions.

Operation Summary

After the shootout, a pistol was seized from the criminal. The main access roads to Complexo da Maré were temporarily blocked throughout the morning to ensure the safety of both the local population and the operating teams.
