State Government Opens 1,620 Spots for the Protected Work Program for Adolescents

Opportunity is aimed at socially vulnerable 15- and 16-year-olds seeking professional training

The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, through the Foundation for Childhood and Adolescence (FIA-RJ), opened registration this Tuesday (July 8) for the second semester of the 2025 selection process for the Protected Work Program for Adolescents (PTPA). A total of 1,620 spots are available for adolescents aged 15 to 16 years and 3 months who are regularly enrolled in public schools or private schools with full scholarships and who are seeking training for their first job.

“This is a program that offers dignity and future prospects to our teenagers. We’re talking about training and opportunity. Our commitment is to expand this type of public policy, which transforms lives and opens new paths for our youth,” said the governor.

Registration is free and must be completed exclusively online, remaining open until August 8, 2025. The registration form is available at: https://forms.gle/5To4N9ssGHdHmQqP6. The full announcement is available on the FIA website: www.rj.gov.br/fia.

According to FIA-RJ president Josiane Assis, the program is a key tool for promoting citizenship and reducing inequality:

“PTPA has the power to transform lives by creating opportunities for adolescents who often live in vulnerable situations. Investing in youth is investing in the future of our state,” she said.

The professional training course provided by the program includes 320 hours of in-person instruction, held outside of regular school hours. Modules cover subjects such as Mathematics, Portuguese, Technology, Humanities, Culture, and Citizenship, aiming to expand participants’ skills and prepare them for future opportunities. The training is conducted by FUNRIO, a foundation affiliated with the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO).

At the end of the course, adolescents who perform well may be referred to protected internships at partner institutions, with administrative tasks and technical supervision, always in compliance with Brazil’s Internship Law (Law No. 11.788/2008).

The PTPA prioritizes adolescents in socially vulnerable situations, including those receiving social program benefits, living in institutional care, under socio-educational measures, undergoing treatment for substance dependency, transitioning gender, and other priority criteria described in the official notice.

Spots Available in Multiple Locations:

The 1,620 spots are distributed across 27 units: Bangu, Botafogo, Campo Grande, Campos dos Goytacazes, Complexo do Alemão, Cidade de Deus, Duque de Caxias, Itaguaí, Itaperuna, Leblon, Macaé, Mangaratiba, Maracanã, Maré, Méier, Miguel Pereira, Nilópolis, Niterói, Nova Iguaçu, Paraíba do Sul, Queimados, Rio das Ostras, Santa Cruz, São João da Barra, São João de Meriti, Taquara, and Teresópolis.

The selection process consists of three stages: online registration, a social interview, and a psychological interview. Adolescents with disabilities will participate under inclusive conditions and will be provided with the necessary support throughout their time in the program.

Program manager Patrícia Ribeiro highlighted the importance of the program’s educational approach:

“More than just preparing young people for the job market, PTPA fosters youth leadership and strengthens self-esteem, expanding their horizons and opening doors to a more just and dignified future,” said Patrícia.
