The 21st edition of the Jogo das Estrelas is coming! Host Zico recalls his first time at the Maracanã

Os últimos nomes confirmados para o Jogo das Estrelas deste sábado, no Maracanã, mostram bem o alto nível que terá a 21ª edição do evento beneficente de Zico. Nada menos que Jorginho e Arrascaeta, atuais campeões do Brasileiro e da Libertadores pelo Flamengo, Breno Bidon, que conquistou o título da Copa do Brasil pelo Corinthians, e o craque Romário. E o show de abertura este ano será exclusivo da Portela. Atrações que mexem com o imaginário do anfitrião.

Maior artilheiro da história do Maracanã, com 333 gols, Zico novamente receberá todos no estádio que o reverenciou. E num momento bem saudosista, relembrou os tempos em que ainda era apenas um torcedor e pisava pela primeira vez na arquibancada de cimento do antigo Maracanã. Mal sabia ele que, anos depois, seria um dos maiores astros daquele gramado. Jogos icônicos e memoráveis, que lembra até com detalhes.

“Quando piso no Maracanã não vêm apenas as boas lembranças de jogador, mas também as de torcedor. No início da década de 60 fui pela primeira vez e o Flamengo venceu o Corinthians pelo Torneio Rio-São Paulo, com gol do Dida. O Joel cruzou e ele guardou. Em 62, num Flamengo x Botafogo, vi o Garrincha fazer três gols na gente. Era a Alegria do Povo e nem saí aborrecido. E, em 63, tinha 10 anos e estava naquele Fla-Flu que teve o maior público da história entre dois times, com 177 mil pagantes. Foi uma loucura!”

É nesse clima de nostalgia que os mais de 55 mil torcedores que são aguardados – estimativa da organização – estarão neste sábado no Jogo das Estrelas, que neste ano passa a fazer parte do Guia Oficial e do Roteiro Turístico do município do Rio de Janeiro. Os grandes astros internacionais nesta edição serão o ex-meia argentino Verón e o ex-atacante português Nuno Gomes. A novidade será a presença, pela primeira vez, de nomes do futebol feminino: a volante Angelina e a atacante Luany, ambas da seleção brasileira.

Os ingressos continuam à venda (jogodasestrelas.futebolcard.com), e, seguindo regulamentação vigente no país, o acesso ao estádio será exclusivamente por biometria facial. Os setores Sul e Norte custam R$ 50, com R$ 25 a meia-entrada. Já o setor Leste está com o valor de R$ 80 (R$ 40 a meia), com o setor Oeste inferior a R$ 100 (R$ 50 a meia). A abertura dos portões se dará às 14h, com o Jogo dos Artistas marcado para 16h e o jogo principal, às 18h30.

The latest names confirmed for this Saturday’s Jogo das Estrelas at the Maracanã clearly show the high level of competition that will mark the 21st edition of Zico’s charity event. No fewer than Jorginho and Arrascaeta—current Brazilian Championship and Copa Libertadores winners with Flamengo—Breno Bidon, who won the Copa do Brasil title with Corinthians, and the legendary Romário.
This year’s opening show will be an exclusive performance by Portela. Attractions that stir the imagination of the host himself. The Maracanã’s all-time leading scorer, with 333 goals, Zico will once again welcome everyone to the stadium that has revered him for decades. In a particularly nostalgic moment, he recalled the days when he was still just a fan, stepping for the first time onto the concrete stands of the old Maracanã. Little did he know that years later he would become one of the greatest stars ever to grace that pitch.
Iconic and unforgettable matches come back to him even in the smallest details.
“When I step into the Maracanã, it’s not only the good memories as a player that come back, but also those as a fan. In the early 1960s, I went there for the first time and Flamengo beat Corinthians in the Rio–São Paulo Tournament, with a goal by Dida. Joel crossed the ball and he put it away. In 1962, in a Flamengo vs. Botafogo match, I saw Garrincha score three goals against us. He was the Joy of the People, and I didn’t even leave upset. And in 1963, I was 10 years old and was there for that Fla-Flu that had the largest crowd ever for a match between two teams, with 177,000 paying fans. It was madness!”
It is in this atmosphere of nostalgia that more than 55,000 fans—according to the organizers’ estimate—are expected this Saturday at the Jogo das Estrelas, which this year becomes part of the Official Guide and the Tourist Itinerary of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The major international stars in this edition will be former Argentine midfielder Verón and former Portuguese striker Nuno Gomes. A new highlight will be the first-ever participation of women’s football players: defensive midfielder Angelina and forward Luany, both from the Brazilian national team.

Tickets are still on sale (jogodasestrelas.futebolcard.com), and, in accordance with current regulations in Brazil, access to the stadium will be exclusively via facial biometric identification. South and North sections cost R$ 50 (R$ 25 half-price). The East section is priced at R$ 80 (R$ 40 half-price), while the Lower West section costs R$ 100 (R$ 50 half-price). Gates will open at 2:00 p.m., with the Artists’ Match scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and the main match kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
