Às vésperas da eleição que definirá o novo presidente da escola no próximo mês, o clima é de divisão interna. Um dos marcos mais significativos desse cenário foi o rompimento de tia Surica, baluarte e presidente de honra da agremiação, com a atual diretoria. Figura respeitada e querida, ela anunciou publicamente seu apoio à chapa de oposição “Supera Portela”, liderada pelo advogado Dr. Léo e pelo empresário André Martinelli.
A decisão de tia Surica ecoa com força no mundo do samba, não apenas pelo seu simbolismo, mas pelo peso de sua história dentro da escola. Com décadas de dedicação, sua voz carrega autoridade e emoção, tornando seu posicionamento um divisor de águas nesse processo eleitoral.

On the eve of the election that will determine the school’s new president next month, the atmosphere is one of internal division. One of the most significant markers of this situation was the break between Tia Surica—an icon and honorary president of the school—and the current administration. A respected and beloved figure, she publicly announced her support for the opposition slate “Supera Portela,” led by lawyer Dr. Léo and businessman André Martinelli.
Tia Surica’s decision resonates strongly in the samba world, not only because of its symbolism but also due to the weight of her legacy within the school. With decades of dedication, her voice carries authority and emotion, making her stance a turning point in this electoral process. Her support for the “Supera Portela” slate suggests a push for renewal, while also highlighting a desire to recover values and practices many believe have been lost.
On the other side, the current leadership faces the challenge of defending its legacy and presenting its accomplishments to a passionate and demanding community.
