União do Parque Acari anuncia Iman Shervington como nova musa para o Carnaval 2026
A União do Parque Acari segue reforçando seu time de musas para o Carnaval 2026. A mais nova integrante anunciada pela agremiação em suas redes sociais é Iman Shervington, dançarina e professora de dança de origens americanas e jamaicanas, com uma trajetória marcada pelo samba e pela valorização das raízes afro-brasileiras.
Iman iniciou seus estudos no samba há 15 anos, inspirada pela sua herança cultural e pelo ambiente em que cresceu: a cidade de New Orleans, nos Estados Unidos, conhecida por sua forte ligação com as tradições africanas. Essa vivência despertou nela uma paixão pela expressão artística e pela dança dos povos da diáspora negra, com destaque para o Brasil.
Além do samba, a nova musa da União do Parque Acari também se dedicou a outras manifestações da cultura popular brasileira, como as danças inspiradas nos orixás, samba de roda, jongo, maculelê, maracatu, cafézal e samba reggae. Fora do Brasil, ela acumula estudos em diferentes estilos, incluindo hip hop, jazz, jazz funk e dança moderna.
Nos últimos cinco anos, Iman tem feito parte do grupo internacional “Poderosas do Samba”, criado por Alex Coutinho e Ale Jansen, que reúne sambistas espalhados pelo mundo para manter viva a essência do samba e de suas origens afro-brasileiras. Foi nesse contexto que ela teve contato com grandes nomes do samba, como George Louzada, que contribuíram para o seu aprimoramento artístico.
A artista estreou na Marquês de Sapucaí em 2022 e, desde então, já atuou como musa em cinco ocasiões e como passista em outras duas, desfilando por escolas como Paraíso do Tuiuti, Império da Tijuca, Acadêmicos de Cubango, Em Cima da Hora e a própria União do Parque Acari. Sua experiência internacional inclui apresentações no tradicional Notting Hill Carnival, em Londres; no Hollywood Carnival, em Los Angeles; e no carnaval de Córdoba, na Argentina.
Fora do universo do samba, Iman atua no campo do audiovisual e da comunicação social em saúde pública, por meio do The Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies, organização sem fins lucrativos com sede em New Orleans. Seu trabalho envolve a criação de filmes e materiais educativos sobre saúde mental, materno-infantil e adolescência.
Animada para retornar à União do Parque Acari, Iman destaca o carinho que desenvolveu pela escola no primeiro ensaio de rua em que participou no ano passado e o orgulho que a comunidade demonstra pela agremiação. “Quis voltar para fazer parte dessa energia novamente, principalmente com o enredo deste ano, que reforça a importância da verdadeira expressão brasileira no mundo”, disse.
Em 2026, a União do Parque Acari será a terceira escola a desfilar no primeiro dia dos desfiles da Série Ouro da Liga RJ, levando para a Avenida o enredo “Brasiliana”, desenvolvido pelo carnavalesco Guilherme Estevão.

União do Parque Acari continues to strengthen its lineup of muses for Carnival 2026. The newest addition, announced by the school on its social media, is Iman Shervington — a dancer and dance teacher of American and Jamaican descent, whose career has been marked by samba and the appreciation of Afro-Brazilian roots.
Iman began studying samba 15 years ago, inspired by her cultural heritage and the environment where she grew up: the city of New Orleans, in the United States, known for its deep ties to African traditions. This experience awakened in her a passion for artistic expression and the dances of the African diaspora, with a special focus on Brazil.
Beyond samba, União do Parque Acari’s new muse has also dedicated herself to other forms of Brazilian popular culture, such as dances inspired by the orixás, samba de roda, jongo, maculelê, maracatu, cafézal, and samba reggae. Outside Brazil, she has studied a variety of styles including hip hop, jazz, jazz funk, and modern dance.
Over the past five years, Iman has been part of the international group Poderosas do Samba, created by Alex Coutinho and Ale Jansen, which brings together samba dancers from around the world to keep alive the essence of samba and its Afro-Brazilian origins. Through this work, she connected with major figures of samba, such as George Louzada, who contributed to her artistic development.
The artist made her debut at Marquês de Sapucaí in 2022 and, since then, has performed as a muse on five occasions and as a passista in two others, parading with schools such as Paraíso do Tuiuti, Império da Tijuca, Acadêmicos de Cubango, Em Cima da Hora, and União do Parque Acari itself. Her international experience includes performances at the traditional Notting Hill Carnival in London, the Hollywood Carnival in Los Angeles, and the Córdoba Carnival in Argentina.
Outside the samba universe, Iman works in the fields of audiovisual production and public health communication through the Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies, a nonprofit organization based in New Orleans. Her work involves producing films and educational materials on mental health, maternal and child health, and adolescence.
Excited to return to União do Parque Acari, Iman highlighted the affection she developed for the school during her first street rehearsal with the community last year, as well as the pride that the neighborhood demonstrates for the samba school. “I wanted to come back to be part of that energy again, especially with this year’s theme, which reinforces the importance of true Brazilian expression in the world,” she said.
In 2026, União do Parque Acari will be the third school to parade on the first night of the Série Ouro parades organized by Liga RJ, bringing to the avenue the theme “Brasiliana”, developed by carnival designer Guilherme Estevão.
