Unidos de Padre Miguel fará desfile para a nesta sexta-feira no Ponto Chic
Mesmo diante da indefinição sobre sua situação no Grupo Especial, a Unidos de Padre Miguel anunciou que realizará um grande desfile para sua comunidade nesta sexta-feira (14), a partir das 21h, no Ponto Chic, em Padre Miguel. A decisão foi tomada como forma de respeito e gratidão à comunidade e a todos os sambistas que demonstraram apoio à escola após o polêmico julgamento do Carnaval 2025.
“Esse desfile é um presente para nossa comunidade e para todos os sambistas que estão ao nosso lado. Independente de qualquer situação, a Unidos de Padre Miguel segue forte e unida, mostrando a nossa garra e o amor pelo samba”, afirmou Lara Mara, diretora de Carnaval da escola.
Entenda o caso
No carnaval de 2025, a UPM fez seu aguardado retorno ao Grupo Especial após 52 anos longe da elite do Carnaval Carioca com um desfile impactante, que exaltou a cultura afro-brasileira e trouxe forte representatividade religiosa ao abordar a chegada do Candomblé no Brasil e a trajetória de Iyá Nassô. No entanto, a escola se viu prejudicada por uma avaliação controversa da comissão julgadora, que gerou revolta entre sambistas e especialistas. Um dos principais pontos de contestação foi a nota dada por uma jurada no quesito Samba-Enredo, que justificou o desconto alegando “excesso de palavras em iorubá” no samba cantado pela escola. A argumentação foi amplamente criticada e interpretada como um caso de racismo religioso, levantando um debate importante entre sambistas, políticos e estudiosos sobre intolerância no Carnaval e a necessidade de mais preparo e diversidade entre os julgadores.
Além desse episódio, outros questionamentos sobre a condução do julgamento foram levantados pela direção da Unidos de Padre Miguel, que cobra mais transparência e equidade no processo. O próprio presidente da Liesa, Gabriel David, se pronunciou no último sábado (8), afirmando que considera que a escola foi mal julgada, o que aumentou a expectativa por uma possível revisão do caso.
Diante desse cenário, a Unidos de Padre Miguel segue aguardando um posicionamento oficial da Liesa e a data da plenária onde o caso será debatido entre os presidentes das demais escolas do Grupo Especial.
“Nós confiamos que a Liga tomará uma decisão justa e estamos atentos ao desdobramento dessa situação. Seguimos na luta pelo que é correto, esperando a plenária e acreditando que essa discussão será feita com responsabilidade”, destacou Lara Mara.

Despite the uncertainty regarding its status in the Special Group, Unidos de Padre Miguel has announced that it will hold a grand parade for its community this Friday (14th) at 9 PM at Ponto Chic, in Padre Miguel. The decision was made as a gesture of respect and gratitude to the community and all samba enthusiasts who have supported the school following the controversial judging of the 2025 Carnival.
“This parade is a gift to our community and to all samba lovers standing by our side. Regardless of any situation, Unidos de Padre Miguel remains strong and united, showcasing our resilience and love for samba,” said Lara Mara, the school’s Carnival director.
Understanding the Case
In the 2025 Carnival, UPM made its highly anticipated return to the Special Group after 52 years away from the elite of Rio’s Carnival with a powerful parade that celebrated Afro-Brazilian culture. The school delivered a deeply symbolic presentation highlighting the arrival of Candomblé in Brazil and the journey of Iyá Nassô.
However, the school found itself at the center of controversy due to what was deemed an unfair evaluation by the judging panel, sparking outrage among samba enthusiasts and experts. One of the most contested issues was a score given by a judge in the Samba-Enredo category, who justified the deduction by claiming there was an “excess of Yoruba words” in the samba lyrics. This reasoning was widely criticized and seen as a case of religious racism, sparking an important debate among samba performers, politicians, and scholars about intolerance in Carnival and the need for better training and diversity among judges.
Beyond this incident, other concerns about the judging process were raised by Unidos de Padre Miguel’s leadership, which has been calling for greater transparency and fairness. LIESA’s president, Gabriel David, addressed the issue last Saturday (8th), stating that he believes the school was unfairly judged, increasing expectations for a possible review of the case.
Given this scenario, Unidos de Padre Miguel continues to await an official statement from LIESA and the scheduling of the plenary session where the matter will be discussed among the presidents of the other Special Group schools.
“We trust that the League will make a fair decision, and we are closely following the developments of this situation. We remain committed to fighting for what is right, awaiting the plenary session, and believing that this discussion will be handled responsibly,” emphasized Lara Mara.
