CBMERJ Celebrates 19 Years of the Maria da Penha Law with “Purple August” Event

*CBMERJ celebra 19 anos da Lei Maria da Penha com evento Agosto Lilás*

O Corpo de Bombeiros Militar do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) promoveu, na manhã desta terça-feira (12), no auditório dos Correios, no Centro do Rio, a 4ª edição do evento alusivo ao Agosto Lilás, campanha nacional de conscientização e enfrentamento à violência contra a mulher. A programação marcou também a celebração dos 19 anos da Lei nº 11.340, a Lei Maria da Penha, sancionada em 7 de agosto de 2006, que representa um marco na proteção e garantia dos direitos das mulheres no Brasil.

O encontro, que reuniu autoridades e especialistas, destacou a importância da prevenção, do acolhimento e da construção de uma cultura de respeito e igualdade. Estiveram presentes o Subsecretário de Estado de Defesa Civil, Cel BM Lauro Botto; a Secretária de Estado da Mulher, Heloísa Aguiar; a deputada estadual Tia Ju; a defensora pública Thais Lima, coordenadora do Núcleo Especial de Defesa do Direito da Mulher e de Vítimas de Violência da Defensoria Pública; e a Maj BM Melba Luana, coordenadora do Centro de Referência ao Bombeiro Militar em Situação de Violência Doméstica e Familiar – Sala Lilás.

A Sala Lilás, formada por equipe multidisciplinar com assistentes sociais e psicólogos, atua há três anos de forma pioneira no Brasil entre Corpos de Bombeiros, oferecendo escuta qualificada, apoio à saúde mental e proteção a bombeiros e seus familiares em situações de violência doméstica. Além do atendimento fixo na sede, realiza ações itinerantes em unidades do CBMERJ, levando informação, reflexão e prevenção. Em seu discurso, a Maj BM Melba Luana se emocionou ao falar do serviço prestado na Sala Lilás do CBMERJ.

– A Sala Lilás é mais do que um espaço físico. É um ambiente de escuta, acolhimento e esperança para quem está em situação de vulnerabilidade. Cada atendimento é uma oportunidade de mostrar que a vítima não está sozinha e que existem caminhos seguros para romper o ciclo da violência – declarou

O ciclo de palestras do evento abordou temas como assédio sexual, apresentado pela juíza federal Mariana Aquino; o Programa SER H, com o representante da Superintendência de Enfrentamento às Violências, Paulo Sarcon; a trajetória e os objetivos da Sala Lilás, com a Cap BM Roberta Kely, idealizadora do projeto; e os desafios atuais do serviço, com o Cap BM Marcelo Augusto Muniz.

Ao final, autoridades receberam homenagens pela contribuição à causa, reforçando o compromisso conjunto no combate à violência doméstica e familiar. A celebração foi encerrada com apresentação da Banda Sinfônica do CBMERJ.

CBMERJ Celebrates 19 Years of the Maria da Penha Law with “Purple August” Event

Meeting highlighted the importance of prevention, support, and building a culture of respect and equality
The Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) held, on the morning of Tuesday (12), at the Correios auditorium in downtown Rio, the 4th edition of the event marking “Purple August” — the national campaign for awareness and action against violence toward women. The program also celebrated the 19th anniversary of Law No. 11.340, the Maria da Penha Law, enacted on August 7, 2006, which stands as a milestone in protecting and guaranteeing women’s rights in Brazil.
The meeting, which brought together authorities and experts, emphasized the importance of prevention, support, and fostering a culture of respect and equality. Attendees included the State Undersecretary of Civil Defense, Col. BM Lauro Botto; the State Secretary for Women’s Affairs, Heloísa Aguiar; state representative Tia Ju; public defender Thais Lima, coordinator of the Special Center for the Defense of Women’s Rights and Victims of Violence at the Public Defender’s Office; and Maj. BM Melba Luana, coordinator of the Military Firefighter Reference Center for Domestic and Family Violence — the “Sala Lilás” (Lilac Room).
The Sala Lilás, staffed by a multidisciplinary team of social workers and psychologists, has been operating for three years — a pioneering initiative among Brazilian fire departments. It provides qualified listening, mental health support, and protection for firefighters and their families facing domestic violence. In addition to offering on-site assistance at its headquarters, the project also conducts outreach activities at CBMERJ units, bringing information, reflection, and prevention efforts to the community.
In her speech, Maj. BM Melba Luana became emotional when speaking about the services provided by the Sala Lilás at CBMERJ:
“The Sala Lilás is more than just a physical space. It is a place of listening, support, and hope for those in vulnerable situations. Each case we attend to is an opportunity to show that the victim is not alone and that there are safe paths to break the cycle of violence,” she said.
The event’s lecture series addressed topics such as sexual harassment, presented by federal judge Mariana Aquino; the “SER H” Program, discussed by Paulo Sarcon, representative of the Superintendency for Combating Violence; the history and objectives of the Sala Lilás, presented by Capt. BM Roberta Kely, the project’s creator; and the current challenges faced by the service, with Capt. BM Marcelo Augusto Muniz.
At the end, authorities were honored for their contributions to the cause, reinforcing the joint commitment to combating domestic and family violence. The celebration concluded with a performance by the CBMERJ Symphonic Band.
