A Unidos de Vila Isabel recebeu, na última quinta-feira (18), em seu barracão, Gracy Mary Moreira, bisneta de Tia Ciata, uma das maiores referências da história do samba e da cultura afro-brasileira. A visita marcou o início do processo de confecção da fantasia que Gracy irá utilizar no desfile do Carnaval 2026, quando a escola levará para a Avenida um enredo em homenagem a Heitor dos Prazeres.
Convidada pela agremiação para representar a família de Tia Ciata no desfile, Gracy participou da tomada de medidas e conheceu de perto o desenvolvimento do carnaval da Vila Isabel. A presença simboliza o reconhecimento da importância de Tia Ciata na formação cultural e musical do Rio de Janeiro, além de sua relação direta com Heitor dos Prazeres, um dos grandes nomes retratados no enredo.
Tia Ciata foi uma figura central na consolidação do samba urbano carioca. Em sua casa, na região da Pequena África, reuniam-se sambistas, músicos e intelectuais, criando um ambiente de resistência cultural e efervescência artística. Foi nesse espaço que Heitor dos Prazeres encontrou inspiração, acolhimento e influência, absorvendo elementos que marcariam profundamente sua obra musical e artística.
Emocionada com o convite, Gracy Mary Moreira destacou a importância do momento. “Não vejo a hora de estar na avenida junto com eles, cantando o samba e trazendo essa memória ancestral que tanto nos motiva, principalmente aqui na Pequena África. Acho que ninguém consegue imaginar a emoção que senti com o convite — não dá para descrever. É um momento ímpar, de muita emoção e profundo agradecimento aos ancestrais por estar aqui, vivenciando tudo isso. Poder desfilar com a Vila Isabel, com esse enredo maravilhoso e essa passagem tão especial que fala sobre a Tia Ciata, é algo único”, afirmou.

Last Thursday (18), Unidos de Vila Isabel welcomed Gracy Mary Moreira, great-granddaughter of Tia Ciata—one of the greatest references in the history of samba and Afro-Brazilian culture—to its workshop. The visit marked the beginning of the costume-making process that Gracy will wear in the Carnival 2026 parade, when the school will take to the Avenue a storyline honoring Heitor dos Prazeres.
Invited by the samba school to represent Tia Ciata’s family in the parade, Gracy took part in the measurement session and closely followed the development of Vila Isabel’s Carnival preparations. Her presence symbolizes recognition of Tia Ciata’s importance in shaping the cultural and musical identity of Rio de Janeiro, as well as her direct connection to Heitor dos Prazeres, one of the great figures portrayed in the storyline.
Tia Ciata was a central figure in the consolidation of urban samba in Rio. At her home, in the region known as Pequena África, sambistas, musicians, and intellectuals gathered, creating an environment of cultural resistance and artistic effervescence. It was in this space that Heitor dos Prazeres found inspiration, welcome, and influence, absorbing elements that would profoundly mark his musical and artistic work.
Moved by the invitation, Gracy Mary Moreira highlighted the importance of the moment. “I can’t wait to be on the Avenue with them, singing the samba and bringing this ancestral memory that motivates us so much, especially here in Pequena África. I don’t think anyone can imagine the emotion I felt with the invitation—it’s indescribable. It’s a unique moment, filled with emotion and deep gratitude to our ancestors for being here and experiencing all of this. Being able to parade with Vila Isabel, with this wonderful storyline and this very special segment that speaks about Tia Ciata, is something truly unique,” she said.
Under the storyline “Macumbembê, Samborembá: I Dreamed That a Sambista Dreamed of Africa,” created by carnival designers Gabriel Haddad and Leonardo Bora, with research by Vinícius Natal, Vila Isabel will celebrate African ancestry, the foundations of samba, and the life and legacy of Heitor dos Prazeres, an icon of Brazilian popular culture.
