Tambor de Cumba estreia espetáculo ‘Ilu Axé: a Força do Tambor’ no Centro Coreográfico do Rio de Janeiro
Espetáculo de dança dirigido por Aninha Catão coloca o tambor como elo ancestral entre espiritualidade, cultura afro-brasileira e cena contemporânea
O Grupo Tambor de Cumba apresenta, nos dias 27 e 28 de dezembro de 2025, sempre às 18h, o espetáculo de dança “Ilu Axé: A Força do Tambor”, no Centro Coreográfico do Rio de Janeiro, na Tijuca. Com direção de Aninha Catão, a obra coloca o tambor no centro da cena como elemento ancestral de ligação entre o Orun e o Ayê, o mundo espiritual e o mundo físico, a partir de referências da mitologia dos Orixás e das manifestações afro-brasileiras.
A montagem propõe uma jornada simbólica que se inicia na cabaça da existência, representação do útero feminino e da criação da vida, e avança por diferentes expressões culturais afro-brasileiras. Guiado pelos Orixás Ibejis, o espetáculo acompanha a trajetória do Orixá Ikú, a Morte, que ao longo da narrativa descobre os ritmos brasileiros por meio de seu tambor sagrado, ressignificando a ideia de fim como passagem, continuidade e celebração da vida.
Para a diretora Aninha Catão, o espetáculo nasce do entendimento do tambor como um elemento vivo, capaz de atravessar tempos, corpos e dimensões, conectando espiritualidade, memória e identidade cultural.
Segundo Aninha, a proposta artística parte da força simbólica e comunicativa do instrumento ancestral. Ela destaca que cada toque carrega histórias, resistência e a permanência de uma cultura que segue pulsando nos corpos e na cena contemporânea.
Com linguagem contemporânea e forte base simbólica, “Ilu Axé: A Força do Tambor” reafirma a potência da ancestralidade afro-brasileira por meio da dança e da música, propondo ao público uma experiência sensorial que dialoga com tradição, mitologia e expressão artística atual.

Directed by Aninha Catão, the dance performance places the drum as an ancestral link between spirituality, Afro-Brazilian culture, and the contemporary stage.
The Tambor de Cumba Group presents the dance performance “Ilu Axé: The Power of the Drum” on December 27 and 28, 2025, always at 6:00 p.m., at the Rio de Janeiro Choreographic Center, in Tijuca. Directed by Aninha Catão, the work places the drum at the center of the scene as an ancestral element that connects Orun and Ayê—the spiritual world and the physical world—drawing from the mythology of the Orixás and Afro-Brazilian cultural expressions.
The production proposes a symbolic journey that begins in the gourd of existence, representing the female womb and the creation of life, and moves through different Afro-Brazilian cultural manifestations. Guided by the Orixás Ibejis, the performance follows the path of the Orixá Ikú, Death, who throughout the narrative discovers Brazilian rhythms through his sacred drum, redefining the idea of the end as passage, continuity, and the celebration of life.
According to director Aninha Catão, the performance is born from the understanding of the drum as a living element, capable of crossing time, bodies, and dimensions, connecting spirituality, memory, and cultural identity. She explains that the artistic proposal stems from the symbolic and communicative strength of this ancestral instrument, emphasizing that each beat carries stories, resistance, and the endurance of a culture that continues to pulse through bodies and the contemporary stage.
With contemporary language and a strong symbolic foundation, “Ilu Axé: The Power of the Drum” reaffirms the power of Afro-Brazilian ancestry through dance and music, offering audiences a sensory experience that dialogues with tradition, mythology, and current artistic expression.
