High-Heeled Cat to Represent Iansã in Em Cima da Hora’s Parade
Gato de Salto representará Iansã no desfile da Em Cima da Hora
Faltando 10 dias para a primeira noite dos desfiles das escolas de samba do Rio de Janeiro, o dançarino Gato de Salto revelou um spoiler do dia mais aguardado. Ativista da comunidade LGBTQIAPN+, Gato representará a orixá Iansã no desfile oficial da Em Cima da Hora, escola onde o mesmo tem o cargo de muso.
Dentro do enredo “Ópera dos Terreiros – O Canto do Encanto da Alma Brasil”, Iansã representa a força e a liberdade feminina. Ela é a deusa dos ventos, das tempestades e dos rituais funerários. Seu nome vem do iorubá Ìyámésàn, que significa “a mãe transformada em nove”. E vai ser através do Gato de Salto que essa representação virá no desfile.
– Desde o dia que fiquei sabendo como viria no desfile eu me emocionei. Pela história, pela luta, pela sensibilidade do carnavalesco em confiar em mim este papel. A emoção foi tanta que eu já quis trazer a Iansã no ensaio técnico, em uma proposta diferente da do dia oficial, mas já com toda essa luta, esse simbolismo quebrando paradigmas – revela Gato.
Já conhecido na Marquês de Sapucaí pelo seu samba no pé em cima de um salto, Gato fará sua estreia na escola de Cavalcanti neste carnaval. Sua fantasia virá novamente importada e confeccionada pelo Ateliê Adiamantina. Para sua passagem na avenida, ele fez sua preparação espiritual tanto no ensaio técnico quanto no desfile oficial.
– Representar um orixá, além de uma representatividade exige muito respeito também. Apesar de não ser iniciado, tenho muito respeito e nunca pisaria na avenida sem permissão. Fiz toda uma preparação espiritual para que possa ter uma excelente passagem pela Marquês de Sapucaí e fechar com chave de ouro este carnaval – finaliza Gato.

High-Heeled Cat to Represent Iansã in Em Cima da Hora’s Parade
With just ten days left until the first night of Rio de Janeiro’s samba school parades, dancer High-Heeled Cat has revealed a spoiler for the most anticipated day. An activist for the LGBTQIAPN+ community, he will represent the orixá Iansã in the official parade of Em Cima da Hora, the school where he holds the title of muse.
Within the theme “Ópera dos Terreiros – The Enchanting Song of Brazil’s Soul”, Iansã symbolizes strength and female freedom. She is the goddess of winds, storms, and funeral rituals. Her name comes from the Yoruba Ìyámésàn, meaning “the mother transformed into nine.” High-Heeled Cat will bring this representation to life in the parade.
“From the moment I found out how I would appear in the parade, I was deeply moved. Because of the story, the struggle, and the sensitivity of the carnival designer in entrusting me with this role. The emotion was so overwhelming that I already wanted to bring Iansã to the technical rehearsal, in a different way from the official day, but still carrying this fight, this symbolism, breaking paradigms,” says High-Heeled Cat.
Already known on Marquês de Sapucaí for his samba skills in high heels, he will make his debut with the Cavalcanti-based school this carnival. His costume, once again imported, will be crafted by Ateliê Adiamantina. For his performance on the avenue, he underwent a spiritual preparation both for the technical rehearsal and the official parade.
“Representing an orixá is not just about representation; it also requires great respect. Even though I am not initiated, I have immense respect and would never step onto the avenue without permission. I went through a complete spiritual preparation to ensure an excellent performance at Marquês de Sapucaí and to close this carnival on a high note,” he concludes.
