State Government Invests Over R$ 1 Million to Modernize Library Collections in the Countryside During the Book Biennial

Governo do Estado investe mais de R$ 1 milhão para modernizar acervos de bibliotecas do interior durante a Bienal

Com recursos da Política Nacional Aldir Blanc, 101 bibliotecas de 67 municípios receberam vouchers de R$ 10 mil para aquisição de livros na 22ª edição do evento

Durante os dez dias de programação da 22ª Bienal do Livro do Rio de Janeiro, representantes de 101 bibliotecas do interior do estado estão tendo a oportunidade de ampliar e modernizar os acervos de suas unidades. A ação é fruto de uma iniciativa do Governo do Estado, por meio da Secretaria de Cultura e Economia Criativa, que distribuiu vouchers no valor de R$ 10 mil cada, totalizando um investimento superior a R$ 1 milhão. Os recursos são oriundos da Política Nacional Aldir Blanc (Pnab) e visam fortalecer a rede de bibliotecas e democratizar o acesso à leitura em todo o território fluminense.

A ação integra a campanha “Do Rio ao RJ”, promovida pela Cultura em comemoração ao título “Capital Mundial do Livro” recebido pelo Rio de Janeiro neste ano. Como parte da programação, a secretaria mantém um estande próprio na Bienal – a Casa da Leitura e do Conhecimento -, que funciona como espaço de valorização da diversidade literária fluminense e ponto de apoio para representantes dos 92 municípios do estado.

• O título de Capital Mundial do Livro é um reconhecimento internacional da força criativa e literária do Rio. E no Governo do Estado, temos atuado para ampliar o acesso à cultura de forma democrática, chegando a todos os territórios, não só na capital, mas também no interior. Estamos auxiliando as bibliotecas a ampliarem seus acervos através da compra de novos livros aqui na Bienal e atuando para que o recurso chegue até a ponta – declarou a secretária de Cultura e Economia Criativa, Danielle Barros.

Sistema Estadual de Bibliotecas

A medida beneficia bibliotecas cadastradas no Sistema Estadual de Bibliotecas (SEB), distribuídas por 67 municípios. Um exemplo é o município de Cantagalo, na Região Serrana, que possui cinco bibliotecas municipais e recebeu R$ 50 mil para aquisição de novos títulos. A retirada dos vouchers e a seleção dos livros ficaram a cargo dos professores Rick Azevedo e Gabriela Ramos, da Secretaria Municipal de Cultura e Turismo. Segundo o secretário da pasta, Guilherme Zanon, mais da metade do valor foi utilizado já no primeiro dia de evento.

• A Secretaria de Cultura e Turismo de Cantagalo parabeniza e agradece ao Estado pela doação às nossas bibliotecas municipais, atualizando nosso acervo e valorizando esse importante instrumento cultural e educacional. Já compramos R$ 30 mil em livros e nessa semana utilizaremos o restante do valor – contou Zanon.

Afetada pelas fortes chuvas em 2022, a Biblioteca Central Municipal Gabriela Mistral, em Petrópolis, está utilizando o recurso da melhor forma: repondo o seu acervo perdido. A bibliotecária Lorena de Oliveira, de 40 anos, gestora da unidade, aproveitou para adquirir os novos livros logo nos primeiros dias e destacou a importância da ação.

• Estou repondo alguns livros que foram destruídos e adquirindo novos títulos. Acho que as publicações atraem leitores e também renovam o hábito da leitura. Antes de vir, montei uma lista dos livros mais procurados na nossa biblioteca e, desta forma, vou conseguir atender a demanda das pessoas e ampliar o nosso acervo. Essa ajuda veio em ótima hora – comemorou Lorena, que retornou para Petrópolis com alguns exemplares na bolsa.

Os vouchers são válidos exclusivamente durante os dez dias de Bienal e devem ser utilizados até o fim do evento.

Casa da Leitura e do Conhecimento

Por meio de uma convocatória pública, autores de mais de 20 municípios fluminenses foram convidados para compor a programação do estande durante a 22ª edição da Bienal do Livro. A convocatória recebeu mais de 400 inscrições e, após análise de todas as propostas, 89 fazedores de cultura foram selecionados.

A programação do estande preencherá os dez dias de Bienal, das 9h às 22h, e contará com lançamentos de livros, rodas de conversa, palestras, contações de histórias, saraus e recitais.

Through funds from the Aldir Blanc National Policy, 101 libraries from 67 municipalities received R$ 10,000 vouchers to purchase books at the 22nd edition of the event

Over the ten days of programming at the 22nd Rio de Janeiro International Book Biennial, representatives of 101 libraries from the interior of the state are getting the opportunity to expand and modernize their collections. This initiative comes from the State Government, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, which distributed R$ 10,000 vouchers to each participating library, totaling over R$ 1 million in investment. The funds come from the Aldir Blanc National Policy (Pnab) and aim to strengthen the state’s network of libraries and democratize access to reading across Rio de Janeiro.

The initiative is part of the “From Rio to RJ” campaign, promoted by the Secretariat in celebration of Rio de Janeiro’s designation as World Book Capital in 2025. As part of the official schedule, the Secretariat has a dedicated stand at the Biennial — the House of Reading and Knowledge — serving as a space to promote the state’s literary diversity and a support hub for representatives from all 92 municipalities.

“The title of World Book Capital is international recognition of Rio’s creative and literary power. The State Government is committed to expanding access to culture in a democratic way, reaching all territories, not only in the capital but throughout the state. We’re helping libraries expand their collections by purchasing new books here at the Biennial and making sure the funds reach those who need them,” said Danielle Barros, Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy.

State Library System

The initiative benefits libraries registered with the State Library System (SEB), located in 67 municipalities. One example is Cantagalo, in the Serra region, which has five municipal libraries and received R$ 50,000 for purchasing new titles. The selection and collection of books were carried out by teachers Rick Azevedo and Gabriela Ramos from the local Department of Culture and Tourism. According to the Secretary of the department, Guilherme Zanon, over half of the funds were used on the very first day of the event.

“The Cantagalo Department of Culture and Tourism thanks and congratulates the State for the donation to our municipal libraries, updating our collection and valuing this essential cultural and educational resource. We’ve already purchased R$ 30,000 worth of books and plan to use the remaining funds this week,” said Zanon.

Affected by severe flooding in 2022, Gabriela Mistral Municipal Central Library in Petrópolis is using the funding to rebuild its damaged collection. Librarian Lorena de Oliveira, 40, who manages the library, took advantage of the first days of the Biennial to acquire new books and highlighted the importance of the initiative:

“I’m replacing books that were destroyed and purchasing new titles. These publications attract readers and help revive reading habits. Before coming here, I made a list of the most requested books in our library so I can meet the public’s demand and grow our collection. This support came at the perfect time,” Lorena said, as she headed back to Petrópolis with books in her bag.

The vouchers are valid only during the ten days of the Biennial and must be used before the event ends.

House of Reading and Knowledge

Through an open call, authors from over 20 municipalities in Rio were invited to participate in the stand’s programming during the Biennial. The call received more than 400 submissions, and after careful review, 89 cultural creators were selected.

The stand’s programming will run throughout the ten days of the Biennial, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., featuring book launches, discussion panels, lectures, storytelling sessions, poetry slams, and recitals.
